Description
Williams Construction worked with CF Industries to complete an upgrade to their demineralized water process. The project had three disciplines – new building, setting all new equipment and erecting a new pre-engineered metal building. The location of the building and equipment was located between two plants, making access only available from the front side of the building. This made the concrete and building construction very difficult.
First, phase 1 of the concrete construction started – large spread footing with grade beams and slab were installed. Second, the equipment was installed. This included large tank vessels and pump skids. A 140 and 300 ton crane were used during the equipment installation. Third, the building was installed around and over top of the installed equipment. A temporary wall was constructed between phases and later removed at project closeout. Once phase 1 was operational, phase two started and was a mirror image of phase 1.
Challenges: The project had to be done in two phases to keep the plant supplied with water.
